The Business Model Canvas is a single-page chart with nine building blocks that together describe how a business works: customer segments, value proposition, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners, and cost structure. You fill each box with short notes, and the whole picture of your business fits on one sheet you can take in at a glance.
It became popular as a faster, more visual alternative to a long written business plan. Because it's one page, it's easy to sketch, share, and change — handy for pressure-testing a new idea, spotting gaps (like a great product with no clear way to reach buyers), or explaining your model to a partner or investor.
Why it matters
Laying your whole model on one page shows how the pieces connect and where the weak links are, so you can fix the model before you pour money into it.
