Brief an Expert and get the work back

Tell an Expert what you need in plain words, attach a file if it helps, and get finished work back in the chat and in your Library.

Chat is where you work one-to-one with an Expert. Pick who you need from your team list, write the brief the way you would to a colleague, and press Send. The Expert shows each step while it works, then replies with the finished piece.

Longer written work, like a report or a plan, also lands in your Library as a draft. Anything that would send, post or spend money waits in Approvals until you say yes.

Why it helps

  • You hand over a whole job in one message instead of squeezing it in between everything else.
  • Follow-ups like “make it shorter” build on the Expert’s last reply, so you never start from scratch.
  • Finished work is filed for you in the Library, so nothing useful gets lost in a long chat.

How to use it

  1. Open Team → Chat. Pick an Expert from the list on the left (on a smaller screen, choose from Chatting with). Each name shows what it is doing: Working, Needs you or Idle.
  2. Write the brief. Type what you want, who it is for and what good looks like in the message box at the bottom. Short of ideas? Tap a suggestion above the box.
  3. Attach files if they help. Use the paperclip, or drop up to 3 text files (.txt, .md, .csv, .json, .html) onto the chat. Penny also reads a bank, Razorpay or Stripe statement, and Orbit a contact list, as a CSV or PDF.
  4. Send it. Press Send, or ⌘/Ctrl + Enter. The Expert shows its progress, and the reply appears here when it is done.
  5. Follow up. Tap a suggestion under the reply, such as Make it shorter, or choose Reply to this to write your own. The Expert gets its earlier reply as context.
  6. Find the work later. Choose Delivered at the top of the chat to jump to anything this Expert finished, or use the magnifier to Search this chat.

Make the most of it

  • Say who it is for and where it will be used: “a 3-email welcome series for new gym members” gets a better first draft than “write some emails”.
  • Fill in your Business DNA first. Every Expert reads it, so you stop repeating your prices, audience and tone in each brief.
  • Paste the part of a file that matters rather than the whole thing: attachments share a limit of 16,000 characters, and the end of a longer file is cut.
  • If a run fails, Try again resends the same brief with its files, so you don’t have to retype it.
  • Know the job but not the Expert? Post it in the Team room instead and the right one picks it up.

Questions

Does briefing an Expert cost anything?

Writing and sending a brief is free. Only delivered work uses your team’s hours, and each reply shows what it used. See Plans and runs.

Will an Expert send or post something on its own?

No. Drafts of emails, posts and ads wait in Approvals, and nothing goes out until you approve it.

Can my teammates see these chats?

Yes. Your team shares the same chat with each Expert. Penny is the exception: her work comes from your books, so only the owner sees what she delivers.

Can I attach images or PDFs?

A brief takes text files only, so paste or attach the words that matter. The exceptions are Penny, who reads CSV or PDF statements, and Orbit, who reads contact lists.
